Fortnite is a titan of the modern gaming community, though with millions of players logging on to the Battle Royale, server issues are bound to occur every now and then. With the recent release of Fortnite Chapter 3, the game has been introducing new features, such as Tents which a player can throw down and restore their health in.

Alongside new mechanics and features, Chapter 3 also introduced the usual crossovers between Fortnite and popular films, games and TV Shows. Coinciding with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, players could get their hands on Spidey's famous web shooters, slinging around the map. Fans could even go all out with their Spider-Man experience and purchase the Spider-Man skin that also released with Chapter 3.

With all the new content coming to Fortnite, and the new players that brings, the servers of the game seem to have suffered. Yesterday it was reported that due to many players experiencing matchmaking, login, and other issues when trying to get into the Battle Royale. Quickly enough Epic responded to the issues, deciding that so many people were having severe issues that the servers for Fortnite were shut down in order to fix the issues.

Fortnite developers kept players updated over the Fortnite Status Twitter account, which initially stated that the employees at Epic were "investigating login, matchmaking and other issues. We will update you when the issues are resolved." For eight hours the downtime persisted, along with the Fortnite Status Twitter thanking players for their patience during this time until the servers were eventually restored. For now though, players are being encouraged to long on once more and see all that the Fortnite Winterfest 2021 has in store. Players of Fortnite and other games took the shut down with a sense of humour though, as Twitter showed clearly with fans posting GIFs and memes of their reaction to the servers being down.

Servers shutting down over the holiday period is nothing new, and 2021 has been no different for major games, and corporations experiencing sudden server shut downs that force gamers to find something else to do for a little while. On Christmas Day the Nintendo Switch eShop was down, after users were running into multiple issues while trying to access the store. These shut downs often result in quick action by those in charge, yet without a specific time given that users and players can return to their favourite games and services means there's often frustration from the consumer side of things. In Fortnite's case, the shut down was not a long one, and allowed players to be back online soon enough.

Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
