Earlier this week, popular YouTuber elrubius made headlines after his stream of a Fortnite tournament received over one million concurrent viewers. The livestream set a record for the most viewers of an individual gaming stream and it even surpassed the performance of Twitch streamer Ninja who recently took part in a Fortnite match featuring Drake, Travis Scott, and other famous faces.

However, it seems that this isn't the only record that Fortnite is holding onto. Ryan Watt, who leads the content and gaming partnership teams at YouTube, confirms that Fortnite also holds the record for "the most videos related to a video game uploaded in a single month EVER." It's unclear which month Fortnite holds this record for (or whether the game holds the record for multiple months) and whether this is a recent development, but either way, the record is still impressive.

Fortnite's huge success on YouTube will come as little surprise to anyone who has visited the video platform in the last few months. As noted in some of the replies to Watt's tweet, many of YouTube's biggest creators are now creating Fortnite videos and it seems to be the biggest trend on the platform right now.

YouTube's algorithm consistently pushes Fortnite videos, making them popular and therefore making it even more worthwhile for creators to create this kind of content. The Fortnite trend is so strong, in fact, that some non-Fortnite creators even replied to Watt complaining that YouTube is failing to push content regarding other games quite as much and that it has been difficult for them to find success as Fortnite has taken off.

At this point, it's unclear how long Fortnite will remain at the top of the YouTube foodchain. The game's popularity on the site revolves around YouTubers regularly creating content regarding the game's new weapons, skins, winning strategies, and other updates, and the more of these that are released, the more fuel creators have. The release of Fortnite Battle Royale on iOS also gives creators more ways to entertain their viewers.

But Fortnite is also a game with plenty of competitors too. For example, the new Battlefield game may feature battle royale gameplay and pre-existing titles such as H1Z1, Grand Theft Auto 5, and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds all offer their own take on battle royale too. These games are all fighting for the same YouTube audience and so it remains to be seen how long Fortnite will hold onto this record.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS devices, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
