For Fortnite's seventh season, Epic has pulled out all the stops, introducing a new Creative Mode, a wintry biome, and the game's first aerial vehicle. However, this is not the end of the game's offerings for this holiday season, as the in-game news feed has just revealed that Driftboards are on their way to the battle royale sensation.

In keeping with Fortnite's winter theme for Season 7, snowboards act as the point of inspiration for Driftboards. While not much is currently known about the Driftboard, it is confirmed to be a single player vehicle. Additionally, the announcement indicates that players will be able to "boost past" their competition — a phrasing that may remind some players of vehicles of Fortnite's past.

In Season 5, the All Terrain Kart, a vehicle that provided a speed boost from drifting, came to Fortnite. The game also featured boost-powered transport in the thrilling Quadcrusher. With this established history of boosting, it seems likely that the Driftboard will have a controllable propulsion system to up its velocity and keep riders' hearts pumping.

Currently, there is no official release date for the Driftboard, but with the new V7.10 update expected to release this Wednesday, fans may find themselves atop a Driftboard and careening down Fortnite's peaks soon. Additionally, V7.10 will feature a nerf to the newly introduced X-4 Stormwing Plane, which will now cause double damage to players when crashed.

Before the release of Season 7, Epic revealed a teaser image depicting a character flying downhill on what fans can now assume is the new Driftboard. This is not the only instance of a Season 7 addition being teased in the game's promotional material, as the Infinity Blade, a new Mythic sword, was featured in several images prior to its official unveiling.

While the Infinity Blade proved to be too powerful for battle royale, and has since been vaulted, the Driftboard is likely to be an exciting addition. After all, there are likely many Fortnite players looking for some high-speed thrills this winter.

Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
