Fortnite is rolling out its latest update patch which, among some minor tweaks and fixes, introduces the all new Shield Keg item. The new item features some unique functionalities, but is being reported to be a bit difficult to find. Fortnite players following this guide are guaranteed to know where to find a Shield Keg.

Epic Games' enduringly popular free-to-play battle royale title is about to enter its second month of its inaugural season for Chapter 3. The v19.01 hotfix, going live today, adds the Shield Keg as this week's new item, with the Clinger grenades being reintroduced last week.

Where to Find a Shield Keg in Fortnite Chapter 3

Fortnite's new Shield Keg item grants players the ability to restore shields for themselves as well as their allies. The new item is thrown onto the ground, where a shield fountain sprays enough to fully restore shields. Shield Keg users beware, however, as the item can restore enemies' shields as well. While Shield Kegs can be found in chests, on the ground, and from Supply Drops, they can also be purchased. Players can buy Shield Kegs off of Lt. John Llama, found in the northern end of Sanctuary, and Lt. John Llama, in a building southwest of Logjam Lumberyard.

Shield Kegs are classified as a Rare (blue) item, so finding them may be hit-and-miss as opposed to purchasing one from an NPC, which costs 250 Gold Bars. The new item joins a growing list of healing-related items Fortnite has been adding since its Chapter 3 began. The previous update, v19.00, introduced Med-Mist, which can restore the wielder and their allies' health. The current season has also been the inaugural season for Tents, which not only act as a health-restoring item, but also as a means for extra item storage in Fortnite.

Although Fortnite Chapter 3 certainly offers a variety of ways for players to restore their health and shields, some players are finding more unusual ways to stay alive in Fortnite. One player has discovered that, when downed, it's possible to still use a Mending Machine, which can restore an amount of health for 200 Gold Bars. This means that downed players can hold out for much longer than they normally would, so long as they have the funds to do so.

The Shield Keg is an inventive new item, and it should be interesting to see it implemented in competitive matches. With the near-constant stream of new healing items, weapons, and features, Fortnite has certainly become quite the insane game, and it doesn't appear to be slowing its roll anytime soon.

Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
