Fortnite is going strong, with Chapter 2 Season 5 still underway and players looking forward to what Epic Games has in store for Season 6. While Epic Games hasn't revealed much about Season 6, that hasn't stopped leaks from reaching players, such as the recent leak saying old vehicles are returning to Fortnite.

The latest Fortnite leak was reported by data-miner HYPEX on their Twitter account, stating that Epic Games is working on weapon mods for the game, a notion that the leaker had previously brought up in December of last year. However, he didn't have specific details on how the weapon mods would function. However, one of HYPEX's recent tweets reveals more information on how weapon mods will operate in the game.

According to his tweet, the weapon mods will work similar to how weapon attachments are used in other shooters, like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Weapon mods can be dropped or added to weapons anytime in the game, and each mod will be treated like a standard item is in Fortnite. Also, weapons will have specific mods that they're compatible with, based on the function "PrintValidWeaponMods" reported in the tweet. This means some weapons will have mods exclusively compatible with them and no others.

Fortnite weapons will also have multiple slots for weapon mods to use. Players will have the option to use several weapon mods at once for their weapons in a match, but this doesn't mean they will be interchangeable. However, the leak doesn't say what the weapon mods will be like or what they might do for players' weapons exactly, such as whether the weapon mods will add different ammo types, weapon boosts, new abilities, or anything like that.

HYPEX did have a follow-up tweet saying there might even be "saved weapon mod templates" in the new season, but he didn't have details on how that would work. Even with the Fortnite weapon mods leak, it's still possible that the weapons mods won't end up in Season 6 or the game at all. If the leaks are accurate, it means Epic Games is working on the mods to heighten the gameplay experience for players in Chapter 2 Season 6 when it launches on March 15.

Epic Games hasn't officially revealed anything yet, and more leaks may come out later this month or sometime in February. Until then, players can still enjoy the Season 5 Fortnite content before the new season arrives this March.

Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
