It goes without saying that Fortnite is no stranger to leaks, as it seems almost every other day a new feature is rumored to be coming to the popular free-to-play battle royale game. While some may consider leaks and rumors to be detrimental to a game's success, others may argue that it helps build hype for what a game has next in store, and the continued success of Epic Games' hit battle royale can be considered proof of just that.

Fortnite has allowed players to experiment with an enormous plethora of items over the years, from the typical pistols, shotguns, and assault rifles, to the more zany Pumpkin Launcher and Big Chill weapons. As the game is constantly adding new content in order to keep it as fresh as possible, another newly leaked feature possibly involving weapon customization has fans excited for what's to come.

Despite the recent leaks of a strange Gnome Gunsand more, even more new information on weapons seems to have surfaced. On Twitter, popular and reliable Fortnite leaker HYPEX mentioned that it seems a new "Weapon Mod Slots" mechanic is currently being tested by Epic Games' Fortnite development team.

While what this new mechanic entails isn't entirely clear for the time being, there are several theories as to what exactly this potential feature could mean. One theory is that Fortnite will allow players the chance to give their weapons specific attachments, such as adding a scope to a pistol, or a silencer to an assault rifle in-game, essentially eliminating the need for dedicated weapons like the Suppressed Pistol. Fans also theorize that this new mechanic could allow players to customize their weapons in ways that give them certain perks and abilities. Players have pointed out that this seems rather likely, as this is a mechanic that is included in Fortnite's less popular Save the World mode, which allows players to craft personalized weapons to their liking.

In addition to the speculation as to what this new mechanic could possibly entail, fans have been wondering whether this mechanic will eliminate weapon rarities altogether, though it doesn't seem likely to some, considering the Exotic weapon rarity was only just introduced in Fortnite's latest season. For now, the fan consensus seems to be that Fortnite's Save the World weapon crafting mechanic could be implemented into the battle royale mode in some form.

Aside from Epic Games currently fighting its own battle to get Fortnite back on major mobile devices the way they want, the game has already introduced a lot of of new content for players to enjoy in its newest season. For now, only time will tell if yet another Fortnite leak will pan out well for players.

Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
