Although Fortnite has made several changes recently pushing the game toward a more mobile battle royale experience with items like the Rift-to-Go and Balloons, building is still a key component to success in Epic Games' wildly popular title. Speaking of which, most players, especially those of the hardcore camp, have experienced building walls that unfortunately appear in or are obstructed by the ground around it.

Now, it seems as if Epic Games has set out to fix this long-running issue with the multiplayer sandbox shooter's v7.20 update. Contained in this update is a fix for wall placement that automatically results in a connecting piece free of cost in the right circumstance. It remains to be seen how useful this feature will be, but without a doubt, several Fortnite players are excited about this major change. It's also worth highlighting this connecting piece update is only set for walls for now, though moderators mentioned a possible extension to other structures if need be.

The change seems simple enough, given the way that Fortnite detailed it. When players try to build a wall that requires a connection to a build piece that is 70% underground, the connecting piece will automatically build for free. Under the right circumstances, it seems as if the full wall would be higher on certain grounds, but for the most part, this prevents players from losing building materials with little-to-nothing to show for it.

If this works out well, then the days of running out of mats and losing a wall are over. For some, this could be the difference between a victory royale and a loss. Hopefully, this is part of a growing trend of Epic Games fixing some of Fortnite's more serious issues, as many applauded the quality-of-life changes that came forth back when the developers delayed the Driftboard.

Assuming Epic Games continues to listen to its fan base, 2019 may also turn out to be another great year for Fortnite. After all, it made $3 billion in profts for 2018. But eventually all trends die out, so it remains to be seen how much longer Fortnite holds out for, especially considering it has recently experienced its first decline of active streamers since the battle royale mode launched. Nevertheless, here's hoping 2019 is yet another great year for the battle royale title.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
