While the two games are in the same genre of multiplayer they both appeal to very different audiences. As a result those fanbases often come to blows in the online world of memes in an effort to prove who belongs to the superior game.
With shots still being fired to this day both sides have generated some hilarious memes that give a great insight into the debate. Some might make have you dabbing for Fortnite and some may make you hungry for that chicken dinner, but hopefully, they’ll all make you laugh.
Whichever side the player finds themselves on they have to admit Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds paved the way for battle royale games to become a mainstream success in the first place. While the genre has been around for quite some time, it was PUBG who did it well.
This amusing meme suggests that Fortnite is like that student who copies his friend’s homework, but does just enough tweaking and modifying that he doesn’t get caught. What makes this even funnier is that the makers of PUBG actually took the makers of Fortnite to court over this very reason.
Crafting is a very different beast in both games. Fortnite players can become a little obsessed with building what should be a temporary base to provide cover into a gargantuan tower of Babel. Part of this is creative types jumping into what should be a fighting game and not caring if they lose.
PUBG, on the other hand, has a simple crafting system that allows players to put attachments on weapons to make them stronger, a process that can involve a lot of looting and scavenging. As the meme points out though, this doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll help.
8 PUBG Veteran Playing Fortnite
Many players had a rough transition period going from the grittiness of PUBG to the colorfulness of Fortnite. Instead of attachments, energy drinks, frag grenades, and real-life weapons they went to shield potions, randomized loot, and pickaxes.
It’s understandable then that trying to get a feel for the cartoonish nature of Fortnite would have been like stuffing real ammo into a nerf gun like this meme suggests.
Power-ups are a funny thing in video games as it’s trying to accomplish something that is not possible in real-life for gaming purposes. This meme gives a clever dig at Fortnite for suggesting the developers were too lazy to add wearable armor and instead went with magical potion shields.
But the meme also takes a dig at PUBG for their healing mechanic. Here we see a character gravely wounded, but instead of receiving proper medical care they’re chugging down energy drinks.
6 Veterans Vs Cosplayers
This meme can be interpreted one of two ways, either it’s making fun of the characters in the games or the players themselves. On the one hand you have PUBG’s players working to get the best ammo, armor, and supplies for their grizzled warriors to survive a brutal game.
Then you have Fortnite, players dressing up their characters in ridiculous outfits to fight each other for points to score even more ridiculous outfits. Although it does warrant mentioning that the picture they used in the meme for PUBG doesn’t show whether the warriors are dressed from the waist down, just saying.
Fornite is an odd game when it comes to transportation. The player has access to a high tech glider, slipstreams, launchpads (technotrampolines), or their own two feet. Yet for some reason, a basic car is unheard of in this hi-tech world and many players will often die in the first few minutes to the closing circle of doom.
PUBG on the other hand has plenty of cars lying around for the player to obtain and stay in the circle with. While this does minimize the thrill of escaping the circle it is a lot more convenient and avoids the irritation of dying to a game mechanic rather than another player.
4 The King Of Battle Royale
With all this debate between whether PUBG or Fortnite is the better battle royale game players need to remember the concept is nothing new. In fact this meme points out that the simple childhood game of musical chairs is a much older game still played to this day.
Sure Fortnite can run on a potato but musical chairs doesn’t even need a computer. PUBG require a little more skill, but musical chairs takes actual physical prowess. It’s a great meme that’s a reminder that this whole debate is a little silly.
3 Minimum Requirements
A common threat to gamers is the minimum requirements games mandate to be able to play them. There’s nothing more frustrating for a gamer then being unable to play the latest game because your console or PC is just a little outdated.
Here Fortnite is shown capable of running on a potato which is nice for younger gamers with no money. Meanwhile PUBG has some strict graphical standards that even standard machines just aren’t capable of meeting. Sure PUBG looks more realistic, but accessibility to players using notebooks trumps that any day.
This clever meme doesn’t seem to make a statement of which game is superior merely which one everyone and the media is spending the most time talking about. When PUBG came onto the scene it garnered a little bit of attention and some noted the popularity of the game.
But when Fortnite came out it received unprecedented levels of attention from the media, internet celebrities, concerned parents, political activist groups, and more. Maybe it was because Fortnite was more appealing to younger audiences or more people were playing because anyone could afford it. Whatever the reason there’s no denying Fortnite is getting much more attention, regardless of whether or not it’s deserved.
1 PUBG Vs Fortnite
This hilarious meme makes a darn good point when it comes to the gamers debating which game is better and which fan base is superior. In the end everyone is just in their room playing their favorite video game and there’s very little difference between the two.
Some may like Fortnite for its casual tone and some may like PUBG for its more serious tone with its tongue in cheek humor. Both are great games and are different enough from each other that it’s all just an apples and oranges debate anyway.
