After seasons’ worth of speculation, it finally happened: Fortnite’s Tilted Towers is no more. But that wasn’t the only location on Fortnite’s map that was destroyed during this weekend’s Volcano event, which also brought a player voted weapon back from the vault.

At 2pm Central, Fortnite players gathered for the latest event, which included the eruption of the volcano added to the map in Season 8. But before the destruction could begin, players were sent to a dream-like area outside of the map with 6 thin, rectangular pillars.

Each of these pillars represented a different Fortnite item that had been vaulted, like the X-4 Stormwing plane, drum gun, and the Tactical SMG. Presumably the vote was supposed to take a while, as players use their pickaxes to destroy the pillar connected to the weapon/item they wanted to return, but clearly the Drum Gun had an overwhelming amount of supporters. The Drum Gun pillar crumbled, players were sent back into the Fortnite map on their gliders, and the volcano eruption began.

In total, multiple different eruptions occurred, sending large balls of flaming rock across the map. As far as the destruction is concerned, Tilted Towers took the brunt of the damage and was reduced to some basic structures and pools of lava. Retail Row’s parking lot was also severely damaged, with a rock landing and exploding in the town center. Both Polar Peak and Greasy Grove also took hits but the damage was not as significant as Titled Towers.

While these Fortnite events typically signal big changes for the map, sometimes the changes are only in preparation for the next season. It seems safe to assume that Titled Towers is destroyed and Retail Row will have damage or a remodel, but beyond that the Season 9 map redesign could go different ways.

As far as the Drum Gun is concerned, Epic Games says that the weapon will not be returning for this week’s World Cup qualifier. Most likely, the weapon will return with the launch of Fortnite Season 9 on May 9th.

Fortnite is available for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
