At the end of last week, three developers from Epic Games took to Reddit to answer the community's questions about what is next for Fortnite's extremely popular battle royale mode. One of these questions focused on the game's newest means of travel, the Driftboard, and Epic's response indicated that the company already has another vehicle in the works.

In a post made by Design Lead Eric Williamson, it was stated that Epic is currently working on a "new single-occupancy vehicle," though no more specifics were provided on the vehicle itself. That said, Williamson did suggest that the implementation of the vehicle is contingent upon the Driftboard's continued role in battle royale.

Specifically, Williamson's post suggests hesitation to have both the Driftboard and the unnamed new vehicle available at the same time, due to Epic not being "quite sure how they'll play together." He continues by noting that the community's positive reception to the Driftboard has Epic "discussing how long it should stick around," which may mean that the release of the new vehicle is a ways off.

The responses to Williamson's post echo the sentiment that players are indeed enjoying the Driftboard, with many Reddit users asking that it be made permanent in battle royale. While Epic may ultimately decide to remove it in some future update, it is understandable that the company would not want to interfere with something that fans are just beginning to have fun with.

However, this is not all of the vehicle-related discussion that occurred in this recent Reddit thread, as the developers took the opportunity to make an announcement about the X-4 Stormwing Plane. Since the release of the aerial vehicle early in Season 7, a number of nerfs have attempted to address the community's concerns with its power level. Ultimately, it seems that more drastic measures were deemed necessary, and Williamson has confirmed that the plane will be Vaulted with the start of Season 8.

While Williamson's post about the new vehicle is light on details, some fans will simply be happy to know that something new is in the works. For those eagerly awaiting more information, the Driftboard and the beginning of Season 8 may serve as acceptable distractions in the interim.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
