Fortnite has always managed to stay relevant in its five-year existence, largely thanks to its near-constant stream of updates offering players new content to discover and tweaks to overall gameplay. The next update has officially arrived, and it's a substantial one: a new POI-wide battle, the unvaulting of a long-dormant vehicle, and much more.

Epic Games' enduringly popular free-to-play battle royale title is now roughly halfway through its Chapter 3 Season 2. Fortnite made waves at the start of the season by completely eliminating its signature building mechanic, later restoring it and adding a dedicated Zero Build Mode. The game has regularly added full-scale battles at various POIs in the time since, with this latest update hinting at an approach towards a climax.

While the Fortnite v20.30 update is quite the robust one, the largest component of the new content is The Battle for Tilted Towers. As with all of the POI-centered battles between the Imagined Order and The Seven's Resistance prior, players must defeat three waves of IO Guards at different points around the location. Players will again be assisted by Seven Sentry AI units, while the deadly Huntmaster Saber looms above in one of the last remaining IO Blimps on the island.

Another major part of the Fortnite update is the unvaulting of the fan-favorite vehicle, the Choppa. Reportedly not seen in the main game since Chapter 2 Season 4, the aerial vehicle excels as an optimal form of transportation, with the ability to hold up to five players. The last time the Choppa was prominently featured was during last year's Impossible Escape LTM, which tasked players with repairing one while dealing with a litany of enemy AI. However, before players begin taking to the skies, the Choppas must be fully funded via Funding Stations at any of the island's Seven Outposts.

In addition to the new battle and unvaulted Choppa, Fortnite is bringing back Lightsabers just in time for Star Wars Day. Extending beyond the expected May the 4th, Fortnite players will have access to a variety of Lightsabers of various Jedi and Sith throughout the Skywalker Saga. In addition to the elegant weapon for a "more civilized age," players will also have access to the classic E-11 Blaster Rifle. The update also adds a set of Star Wars quests, which players can complete to unlock an Empire Banner.

In what appears to be the biggest weapon rebalancing since pre-Chapter 3, Fortnite is overhauling its current catalogue of shotguns. The Striker Pump and Auto Shotguns have increased headshot damage, as well as an increased pellet-hit count from 3 to 4. The Ranger Shotgun gets dramatically increased headshot damage, as does the Drum Shotgun. However, while the Drum also gets its pellet-hit count up to 4, the effective range has been shortened. Between the shotgun rebalancing, the re-addition of Lightsabers, and unvaulting of the Choppa, the remainder of Chapter 3 Season 2 just got a lot more interesting.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
