Fortnite, being a live service title, regularly receives updates that offer players new things to do and new rewards to earn. While the updates can signficantly vary in size and scope, the game's latest update adds a particularly robust amount of content, adding in a new location, enemy AI, cosmetics, and more.

Epic Games' ever-popular free-to-play battle royale title is currently in the midst of its annual Halloween event, Fortnitemares. Fortnite has already offered a plethora of seasonal-themed goodies for players, including adding Halloween-oriented skins like The Walking Dead's Rick Grimes, but the game's new v18.21 update kicks Fortnitemares into high gear.

Detailed on the official Epic Games website, the new Fortnite update chiefly continues the game's ongoing story by introducing the Cube Queen, Season 8's secret skin. Along with the Cube Queen comes the strongest Cube Monsters yet: the giant, foreboding Caretakers. The intimidating colossal apparitions have spectral tendrils which can pull players directly into The Sideways. According to the update trailer, the new foes on the island appeared from The Convergence, the central point of the map where all the mysterious Cubes have been heading towards this season.

Although tough new enemy AIs are being added, so too are a variety of new and returning weapons. The most notable addition the Fortnite update brings is the Sideways Scythe melee weapon, which bears similar properties as the Star Wars Lightsabers of seasons past. The flashy new weapon can be obtained by either finding it in a Sideways Chest or defeating one of the Caretakers, although neither method is a complete guarantee. Plenty of other Halloween items make their return, like the Pumpkin Rocket Launcher, Witch Brooms, and Candy, featuring a new Zero Point Pretzel in the mix.

Beyond all of the content arriving in Fortnite's regular Battle Royale mode, the fan-favorite Horde Rush makes its return. Players can rack up their scores by earning combos, finding score multipliers, and eliminating as many monsters as possible before taking on the Final Boss. This iteration of Horde Rush also comes with its own set of Horde Rush Quests to complete for special Fortnitemares rewards. Players can unlock the Thinking Juice Back Bling, Cube Queen Banner, and the Cuddle Scream Leader Spray.

Beyond everything already covered, there are also several new Fortnitemares punchcards offering players even more themed cosmetics, including the leaked Ariana Grande skin. With just a handful of days left until October 31, Fortnite is offering a ton of content for players to get their spooky on.

Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
