Chapter 2 Season 5 of Fortnite continues to introduce new, unexpected characters from across various universes. Now, players are finding a new portal on the Fortnite island that appears to connect to The Walking Dead.

Epic Games' popular battle royale title has kept most of its guest characters this season under wraps prior to launch. However, The Walking Dead characters - Daryl Dixon and Michonne - were revealed well in advance as a Fortnite crossover at The Game Awards 2020.

Players have begun sharing their encounters with the portal as they find it on the island and recognize its origin. Twitter user FortTory posted a short clip documenting the experience. Looking at the video, players will be able to recognize the portal opens to the exact background used in The Walking Dead skin teaser trailer. The portal seems to constantly face the player regardless of direction, and closes shut the closer that its approached. Fortnite's official Twitter posted a teaser at roughly the same time players began noticing the portal.

The 30-second audio clip features a "Reality Log" by Agent Jonesy, whom we last saw begin his recruiting mission in the Zero Point story trailer. He talks about how his latest acquisitions didn't take much convincing to leave their "depressing" universe. There is also mentioning of crossbows and swords, all but confirming the addition of Daryl and Michonne. Some players have speculated on if there will be any more skins from The Walking Dead universe besides the two announced, or if some of the AMC show's actual Walkers will invade the island. The concept of zombies is nothing new to Fortnite, although technically they're "Husks".

The incorporation of either Walkers or Husks, even as a limited time mode, could be another good shake-up for Fortnite. This could provide an avenue for Epic Games to integrate its less-popular Save the World mode into its' battle royale player base. However, its also likely that the crossover will extend only to skins. While Fortnite continues to add more and more characters from unexpected franchises, one theory suggests Epic is actually hiding a big secret in plain sight.

In terms of limited time modes, the game's latest update provides players with a new mode called "The Spy Within." This LTM has players determine the identity of a traitorous spy within their group. If gamers are thinking this is sounds awfully similar to Among Us, well, it's exactly like Among Us. It seems Fortnite is pulling entire games from other realities too.

Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
