Following the addition of the limited time Infinity Gauntlet mode in Fortnite earlier this week, the development team at Epic Games officially decided to nerf Thanos after monitoring player feedback for the new LTM. Now, the studio has decided to increase the Marvel villain's attacks with a slight buff, while decreasing his vitality in an attempt to better balance the mode for fans of the free-to-play Battle Royale portion of the game.

As shared in a post on the official subreddit for Fortnite Battle Royale, Epic Games has stated that its goal with the changes "is to allow more folks to truly experience the power of Thanos" while also giving players the chance to "feel powerful when wielding the gauntlet." To do this, the developer has increased the character's Beam from 12 to 20 damage on players, upped Punch damage from 80 to 100, but has decreased health from 800 to 500.

While many Fortnite fans will surely applaud Epic for buffing Thanos' attacks in the Infinity Gauntlet mode, it seems contrary to the second half of the studio's stated goal for the changes to have also diminished the capacity of his health bar. Sure, this will facilitate the ability for more people to play as the Mad Titan, but it is being done so at the cost of making him easier to kill, which contradicts the statement of wanting fans to "feel powerful when wielding the gauntlet." After all, his shield cap was already reduced by 100 earlier this week.

Aside from alterations to Thanos' attributes, Epic has also made some general tweaks to the Infinity Gauntlet mode, with one of the more important refinements ensuring that floor loot drops only spawn Rare, Epic, and Legendary quality weapons. Additionally, the development team has changed the Limited Time Mode by reducing the height of the Battle Bus when dropping, making the initial storm circle bigger, and causing the storm to inflict less damage early in a match. What's more is that the initial spawn time for the Infinity Gauntlet has been changed from the bus ride plus 30-45s to bus ride plus 120-135s, with increased spawn rates of Med Kits, Chug Jugs, and Big Shields, while Bandages and Slurp Juice no longer spawn.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see how the Fortnite community responds to these modifications to Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet mode as a whole after playing it for a while. As of now, a quick scan of the game's forums show a common criticism being levied against Thanos having his health reduced, as players are arguing that it defeats the purpose of assuming the role of one of the Marvel universe's toughest antagonists. On the flip side, though, anyone effectively using his Beam attack ought to absolutely melt the competition, so these changes might hold weight.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
