One of Fortnite's greatest draws is its recurring ability to include high profile crossovers with some of entertainment's greatest franchises. Now, players can suit up as the Man of Steel himself, Superman, in the latest Fortnite update.
Before this update, Fortnite has done multiple collaborations DC. The Battle Pass for Season 2 Chapter 6 introduced the Batman Zero skin, another Batman variant joining the Dark Knight and Comic Book skins already available for Batman. Besides Batman, though, other DC characters to have been featured in the game include Harley Quinn, the Joker, Green Arrow, Beast Boy, and many others. It goes without saying, then, that the arrival of Superman has been a longtime coming.
The Fortnite team announced today that it would be bringing a Superman line of cosmetics to the game. Items included as part of this update are the "Call to Action" Emote, the "Superman Shield" spray, the Clark Kent outfit, and a Daily Planet themed Back Bling. Players can unlock these items by completing Battle Pass Quests given by Clark Kent, Armored Batman, or Beast Boy. The Superman skin follows the recent skin additions of Street Fighter's Cammy and Guile, a Lebron James and Space Jam promotion, and one based on Ariana Grande.
In addition to the iconic red and blue design of Superman, players can also unlock the "Shadow" variant of the character. Sporting an all black suit emblazoned with a silver "S" and fully white eyes, the skin is reminiscent of Superman's black suit seen recently in Zack Snyder's Justice League and other classic Superman stories. This skin can be obtained by completing designated quantities of Chapter 2 Season 7 Epic Quests throughout the season. Like the Beast Boy skin, which let players change between his human and beast forms, players can transform between Clark Kent and Superman through a taunt—in this case, the "Secret Identity" taunt—with both the regular and Shadow variants of the skin.
Fortnite continues to bring notable characters and personalities to the game after years of running. While many have come and gone in this time, incredible skins like this Superman one have been enough to pull players back in just so that they can represent their favorite character. With that said, there are still many DC characters yet to appear in Fortnite who definitely deserve their time to shine. In the meantime, it looks like it is up to Superman to help take back the island from those pesky aliens.
Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
