Fortnite is now in the middle of the Summer Skirmish Tournament with the sixth-week coming in soon, and developer Epic Games has released an update on the event featuring standout Fortnite players and plans for further improvements.

The Summer Skirmish Tournament is Epic’s way of bringing together the best Fortnite players for battle. Players participating in the tournament are competing to win millions of dollars in prize money, with the format and competitors changing weekly, making the stakes higher than ever. Currently, Epic just concluded Week 5 and released a mid-skirmish update.

Epic saw some impressive stats during the first few weeks, and the recap covered everything from longest elimination, to who’s dominating the field, and more. Moreover, Epic unveiled its plans to improve the rest of the Summer Skirmish Games, based on what was learned so far.

The developer also revealed the Showdown players that were able to make a name for themselves during the Summer Skirmish. Epic was impressed with the consistent performance and high rankings during the Summer Skirmish by player NotVivid, who also placed 19th and 155th in the two Solo Showdowns.

Another player who stood out by topping Saturday’s Summer Skirmish group in Week 3 was Atlantis Mitr0, who also earned the highest score across all regions. Ever since entering the Skirmish, Mitr0 was able to show a strong consistent performance by finishing 13th and 1st in his two entrances.

Moreover, the Showdown player Reverse2K was able to maintain an impressive ranking in the Blitz Showdown LTM. The player managed to finish 13th in Week 2's "High Score" format while finishing 16th paired with player TSM Daequan the week after.

Lastly, Epic was impressed with player Secret Domentos, who caught fire but managed to pull through in the competition, winning Week 4’s “Hold the Throne” last Saturday. Domentos was also the only Summer Skirmish player to take three Victory Royales in a single day.

Besides the Showdown players who made a mark during the first few weeks of the Summer Skirmish, Epic also laid out its plans to further improve the rest of the event. The developer’s priority right now is optimizing server performance.

In a blog post, Epic revealed that the studio has "integrated a number of improvements of the course of the Summer Skirmish series, however we still aren’t quite where we’d like to be. We'll keep taking the things we learn from playtests, Skirmish events, and live server data to push the envelope for high intensity Battle Royale.”

The past few weeks have been fun and intense for participating players and viewers of Fortnite's Summer Skirmish Tournament. Although a few problems were encountered during the first half of the event, it’s nice to see Epic being open to everyone about their learnings and sharing their plans to improve the rest of the tournament further. If this event turns out to be a success, who knows, maybe more parents will enlist the services of Fortnite tutors in the future.

Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
