Season 9 of Fortnite Battle Royale kicked off last night, bringing with it plenty of changes and additions like the futuristic new style of Tilted Towers. Players have also begun hunting new Fortbyte collectible microchips, one hundred of them to be released throughout the season. Collecting them reveals some sort of mysterious picture, though the ultimate reward is still unknown. This week brought even more changes to the ever evolving online experience with Update 9.20 including a powerful new item.

This week's Fortnite update brought with it a new item called the Storm Flip. When thrown, the bottle explodes on impact and creates a new sphere-shaped zone creating a damaging storm area for anyone trapped inside. Interestingly enough, when this is used inside the current storm, it creates a small safe zone for 20 seconds. Players can find a single stack of this epic tier item in places like Floor Loot, Chests, and Vending Machines.

In addition to being able to harness the power of a storm in the palm of players hands, patch 9.20 also introduces plenty of bug fixes, gameplay updates, and an updated limited time mode rotation to Sword Fight. All variants of the Hunting Rifle have been vaulted as well, with Epic explaining that the weapon became outclassed by the Infantry Rifle following its change to hitscan. With other sniper options available, Epic felt that the Hunting Rifle didn't currently serve a role in the weapon lineup.

While the popularity of Fortnite remains incredibly high, worlds are set to collide later this week as Tyler "Ninja" Blevins is set to join PewDiePie for this week’s Friday Fortnite tournament. These popular personalities will be teaming up together and will likely shatter viewership records considering the amount of followers each person has individually. The tournament is set to have 32 teams of 2 battle it out to see which duo can be the last team standing.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
