Fortnite is now over four years old. Since the game was released, the developers at Epic Games have continued to release new skins for players to purchase from the Item Shop. While some of these skins are original to the game, many others are part of Fortnite crossover events with other major franchises such as Star Wars, Halo, and Marvel. Recently, new details suggest that new content from Spider-Man might be coming to the battle royale in the coming months.

An October 12th leak suggested that a Spider-Man crossover event might be coming to Fortnite. Discovered by HYPEX, a content creator and Fortnite leaker, this leak provided some details on a potential collaboration between the franchises. In addition, HYPEX claimed that the event could happen by the end of the year.

According to the leaker, a new item codenamed “WestSausage” was found in relation to a new project Epic Games is developing. Based on the info from the leak, HYPEX believed that this codenamed item could mean Web-Slinger, an obvious reference to the Spider-Man series. In addition, they mentioned that this new item “has swinging mechanics.” The leaker included some of the lines of text relating to the possible new mechanic such as "Swing Attach Location, Swing Detach Time, Swinging, Swing Accelerate, Swing Jump." It would be interesting to see how this would play out in Fortnite as it suggests that a limited-time mode or item could come to the battle royale.

Besides these Spider-Man leaks, Fortnite has been introducing other web-slingers to the game as well. Last month, the Eddie Brock and Venom skin was added to the game. In addition, Epic Games recently added mythic weapons to Fortnite based on Carnage and Venom. These weapons let the user shoot a giant tendril of destruction at their enemies. With the Venom skin and these symbiote weapons already in the game, the foundation is there for more skins and items from the Spider-Man franchise to make an appearance.

Another reason this rumor makes a lot of sense is the upcoming release of a new Spider-Man movie. Spider-Man: No Way Home is the next installment in the Marvel series starring Tom Holland. Releasing on December 17, 2021, it will be interesting to see if a Spider-Man crossover with Fortnite happens around the same time.

It’s worth noting that none of these details have been confirmed by Epic Games. As a result, info leaked by HYPEX could turn out to be inaccurate. However, given the prolific rate at which Epic Games introduces new skins in Fortnite and the popularity of the Spider-Man games and movies, there seems a reasonable chance that more content from the web-slinging crimefighter might be coming to the battle royale relatively soon.

Fortnite is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
