Epic Games' wildly popular battle royale game Fortnite is at times deeply immersed in the realm of popular culture. For instance, its advertisements have occasionally included nods to pop culture icons, such as its  Avengers-related promotion overseas. The title also features pop culture references within the game, too, and Epic intends to continue this tradition with an emote based on the popular song "Crank That" by Soulja Boy.

Announced yesterday in a tweet by Soulja Boy himself, this certainly wouldn't be the first time the music industry and Fortnite have crossed paths. For instance, the Toronto-based rapper Drake took part in one of the game's most popular streams to date by playing the multiplayer sandbox survival title with the pro gamer, Ninja. Since then, fans have been clamoring for Epic to add an emote based on one of Drake's movements in the music video for his song "Hotline Bling".

Circling back to the "Crank That" emoji, Soulja Boy didn't reveal exactly when the emote would be coming to the game, as he was simply informing fans that it would be soon. While this may still be a strange pairing for some, it's worth mentioning that Way has been streaming Fortnite on Twitch since September 2018, amassing over 34K followers with his videos. Adding to this impressive feat, many Fortnite views on Twitch reportedly decreased during this time period, meaning that the rapper's rise came at a point where other games were becoming more popular on the streaming service.

Although Epic Games hasn't officially announced the emote yet, players should be keeping an eye on Fortnite's in-game item shop. It's uncertain how long the emote will be available, and players would be remiss to lose out on the opportunity of acquiring it like many did with the rarest skin in the game.

Fortnite is available now in early access on iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
