Fortnite Season 5 may be drawing to a close, but developer Epic Games is looking to send it out with a bang. Epic is giving players even more of a reason to play the game before the season comes to a close, with a slew of new updates that introduce not only new weapons to get kills with, but also new game modes to test them out in.

In the latest Fortnite Battle Royale update (patch v5.41), players will have access to a game mode called Soaring Solos. A Limited Time Mode (LTM), Epic describes Soaring Solos as "gliders that can be re-deployed by pressing Jump when falling from large heights." The glider redeployment gameplay isn't a new concept, which explains the brief description. Previous Fortnite LTMs, including the Soaring 50s mode (glider redeployment gameplay in the 50 versus 50 player mode), have featured the mechanic, meaning that players will be well used to it by this point.

Epic hasn't confirmed exactly when the Soaring Solos mode will be removed from the game. However, given that other Fortnite LTMs have only lasted for a few weeks at most, and Season 5 ends next week, it seems safe to assume that Soaring Solos will become unavailable when Season 5 ends.

It's worth noting that the Soaring Solos game mode isn't the only thing introduced in Fortnite patch v5.41. Another big feature in this update is the addition of the Port-a-Fortress item. Port-a-Fortress is described by Epic as a consumable that "creates a massive fortress to defend against and repel enemies" and the developer confirms that the item includes bouncers so that players can make am "easy exit" if need be. Given how important fast building skills are to the current Fortnite Battle Royale meta, it stands to reason that the Port-a-Fortress item could be a serious game-changer and in more ways than one.

Smaller additions in Fortnite patch v5.41 include the Spiky Stadium, which will allow players to come up with new mini-games in the popular Playground mode. Spiky Stadium will be found in red drops along with "a ton" of impulse grenades, teases Epic. Meanwhile, technical fixes remove the delay when popping multiple Shield Potions, the Storm will no longer destroy structures during the last few circles of the map, and CPU optimization on Xbox One should improve the game's performance.

Fortnite is available on iOS, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A beta is currently taking place on Android devices.
