With only days left until Halloween this year, video games are pulling out all the stops to get people in the spooky holiday spirit. This includes Fortnite, which is beginning to reveal details about its latest Fortnitemares event. Titled Shortnitemares, the upcoming event will feature a collection of horror-themed animated shorts just in time for Halloween.

Epic Games' ever-popular free-to-play battle royale title is now in the second month of its Season 8. The story of the mysterious "Cubed" season recently progressed forward with Fortnite's v18.21 update, which adds a new central location, weapon, LTM, and much more.

Detailed on the official Epic Games website, Shortnitemares will feature a collection of seven different horror-themed animated shorts for players to enjoy. The Fortnite event will run from October 28 at 6pm ET through November 1 6pm ET, and can be viewable at any time in between. Players can watch the Shortnitemares films by selecting the corresponding playlist and entering the Shortnitemares Theater, where each short can be watched in seperate rooms. Alternatively, the shorts will play on a loop in the main room, and Picture-in-Picture returns for those good at multitasking.

Players who watch Shortnitemares for at least 30 minutes will be rewarded with the Spray Matter Spray. Additionally, the Shortnitemares-themed Kernel Poppy skin will become available October 27 alongside the Slurpy Slush'em Back Bling and Butter Buddy Emote, which sees the character get an unexpected helping hand eating their popcorn. Shortnitemares is actually the third installment of the recurring Short Nite film event. The original Short Nite event occured back in February, which included a variety of shorts from animators around the world.

Fortnite's Halloween content encompasses much more than its Shortnitemares event. The battle royale is currently packed with items relevant to the holiday, including Witch Brooms, Candy, the new Sideways Scythe, and more. Plenty of Halloween-related skins have been added over the past few weeks as well, including horror-tinged versions of popular Fortnite characters and crossovers like Resident Evil's Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. The latter in particular has caused a stir online, with fans comparing Jill's character model to her Dead by Daylight rendition.

Fortnite's Shortnitemares animated horror shorts event looks to be yet another entertaining offering from the title. Those who would prefer being at a scary-high level over being scared will want to check out the Fortnite Season 8 NPC location guide to complete quests at a scary-fast rate.

Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
