Fortnite season 8 has officially begun, meaning that there has been a multitude of changes to the battle royale mode and the battle island. This includes a new Battle Pass, which players who completed Overtime Challenges unlocked for free, that focuses on pirates, ninjas, and more

Per usual, the Battle Pass gives players two new progressive skins from the get-go: Blackheart, who progresses from a run-of-the-mill pirate into a ghoulish captain, and Hybrid, a reptilian-looking ninja. Other Fortnite skins include the hula-hooping Sidewinder and a new banana-themed skin. It also includes new wraps likely befitting the theme of the season as well as new pets, including a fox and a wooden dog.

This new Fortnite battle pass also introduces a pirate-themed season following the escape of the Prisoner, whose antics see the addition of Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps to the map. Treasure seems to be what brings the Prisoner into conflict with the Ice King and the pirates. Furthermore, lava — an environmental hazard — now appears on the map, and Volcanic Vents — a new point of interest that launches players into the sky — have been added as well.

New challenges have also been added, likely following the 10-week spread of previous seasons. To help complete these, season 8 is also introducing Party Assist, which allows players to get help from their friends in completing 1 challenge in a match. As seen below, for example, if a challenge requires players to use 5 volcanic vents across different matches, 3 friends can do it in one match and it counts toward the completion of the challenge.

All in all, it seems as if Fortnite is off to another great start. With new skins, map changes, and easier methods to complete arduous challenges, many fans who completed the Overtime Challenges for this Battle Pass will likely be glad that they did. Just be wary when dropping on the battle island, as there is a world of difference between season 7 and season 8.

Fortnite is out now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
