Now that we are closing in on the end of the wintry Fortnite Season 7, many are wondering what is coming next—and when? It's worth highlighting that the season 7 week 8 challenges will go live on January 24 after leaking online beforehand. Following the weekly pattern, this means season 7 week 9 begins on January 31 and season 7 week 10 begins on February 7.

However, due to a break held by Epic Games over the holidays, the end of season 7 has been pushed back to February 28. The season originally was supposed to end sooner, but it seems likely that Epic will need the extended time to get Fortnite season 8 ready. Because the start of season 8 has been delayed, fans can likely expect it to launch on February 28th without much trouble.

It remains unclear how the weeks between season 7 ending and 8 beginning is spent, given that the season 7 week 10 start date and the official season 8 start date are three full weeks apart. The transition between season 6 to season 7 was unusually quiet, but for there to be three weeks without any major content updates seems uncharacteristic of the Fortnite developer.

Of course, some players will enjoy the extend time to wrap up any challenges and collect all the hidden battle stars/banners, but it really does beg the question as to how this time will be filled. It's possible that these weeks will be used to build up to Fortnite season 8, as has been done in the past, though very little about season 8 is currently known.

One detail many believe is important in the build-up to season 8 is the recent discovery of dragon eggs. It seems as if they are ready to hatch, but since nothing has been done with them yet, they could very well tie in with Fortnite season 8. After all, season transitions usually get the hype train going, as with the meteor strikes and the rocket launch of the past, and dragon eggs hatching to kickstart the next season would likely do the same. Nevertheless, it seems like we'll have to wait until the end of February before any of this is confirmed.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
