With the introduction of Season 5, Fortnite has made a number of changes to its popular battle royale formula. These changes include adding areas known as Paradise Palms and Lazy Links, as well as changing up the way weekly challenges work. Prior to Season 5, these weekly challenges were locked to Battle Pass owners, but now it appears that three challenges every week are considered "free challenges."

At the very least, three weekly Fortnite challenges for week 1 and week 2 are free and are likely to be so as Season 5 marches on. Without further ado, here are this week's challenges:

Free Challenges

  • Deal damage with Assault Rifles to opponents (1,000)
  • Search 7 Ammo Boxes in a single match (7)
  • Eliminate opponents in Paradise Palms (3) (HARD)

Battle Pass Challenges

  • Score a basket on different hoops (5)
  • Search Chests in Loot Lake (7)
  • Search between an oasis, rock archway, and dinosaurs (1) (HARD)
  • Sniper Rifle eliminations (2) (HARD)

season 5 fortnite weekly challenges

The HARD challenges reward players with 1,000 XP, whereas the normal challenges are worth 500 XP. These challenges are rather straightforward, and many players may able to get several in one game, as they could drop in Paradise Palms and hopefully find an Assault and/or Sniper Rifle.

Considering Fortnite has made $1 billion in microtransactions, it's nice to see Epic Games opening more of its locked content for its free players. Such a move may very well extend the lifespan of the Battle Royale game, though it isn't showing any signs of slowing down any time soon. Battle Pass owners still get the majority of the rewards, as they can get a full 5K XP from this week's challenges, whereas free players can only get 2K.

Moving forward with Season 5, it will be interesting to see what changes Epic makes to Fortnite, and one of the more interesting leaks suggest it may be adding skins for its new All-Terrain Kart. If so, it's likely to be well-received, as pretty much the entirety of Season 5 has been so far.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and is eyeing a summer 2018 release window for Android.
