Another week, more challenges to complete in Fortnite. The tasks this week are a bit different than usual, requiring squads to use superpowers to score eliminations as well as utilizing one older game feature.

That feature is the Rifts that have opened up around the map. Rifts were a part of Fortnite's map for a while, but eventually disappeared. Now they have opened up again all around the map and players must use them as a squad to complete a challenge. Using the Rifts isn't too difficult, but finding them can be a chore. Here's a little guide to help find the rifts more easily.

What Are the Rifts

Before attempting this part of Fortnite's XP Xtravaganza Challenges, it's important to understand what the Rifts are. Each one is like a miniature launch pad, sending players way up into the air to glide down. Think of them as miniature re-drops, not as high as the Battle Bus, but useful for repositioning. This makes them useful in the moment even beyond the challenge, so remembering where they are is a good idea.

All Around Upstate New York

Many of the Rifts are located around the perimeter of Upstate New York. No less than eight Rifts can be found around the edge of the raised area, and most are close to known landmarks. Two are found by going East from Doom's Domain, and another two nearby are right around Craggy Cliffs. On the other end of Upstate New York, two rifts are West by North-West from Dirty Docks.

Finally, at the North-East end of Upstate New York, one Rift is across the water from Steamy Stacks, and another is just East and Down from Stark Industries (or North-West from The Authority, same location). A good movement option, like a vehicle or the Stark jetpack, will help players get between these options faster.

Extremes of the Island

Other pairs of Rifts can be found out near the edges of the island. Two are at the mountain range east of Catty Corner, two more are west of Misty Meadows. Two are also north-east of Holly Hedges, though they're a decent distance from each other. There are also two at the north-west extreme of the island, kind of close to Coral Castle.

What's it All For?

Typically, Fortnite's events tie in somewhat to the overall tone of the new promotions and events going on, so the Rifts presumably have to do with something coming in the game's immediate future. A leak has hinted that a big event is coming to Fortnite soon, so there's a good chance the Rifts will be used for it.

In all likelihood, they will have to do with the upcoming but unrevealed Fortnite Galactus arrival. No one knows exactly what to expect from Galactus' arrival, but if it requires increased mobility, the Rifts are the way to go. Galactus has been known to break space and time, so the Rifts could make sense as a byproduct of his arrival as well.

Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in the works.
