Season 5 of Fortnite Battle Royale is on the horizon, which means the superhero-themed Season 4 is coming to an end. The Battle Pass shows that the season ends in 13 days, putting the end date at July 11th, but for those wanting to get more specific, Season 5 will officially begin on July 12th at 12AM PST or 3AM EST.

Fortnite's new season will come with a new Battle Pass, which will need to be purchased in order to unlock the full roster of new skins and other cosmetics of Season 5. There have been many theories about Season 5's theme, but no official word from Epic Games has confirmed a single one of them. It's likely that the theme will slowly be revealed through teasers posted via social media, as was the case during the build up to Season 4.

Epic revealed the end date of Fortnite's Season 4 via Reddit, where it also confirmed its decision to give players two more days to complete Season 4's challenges than was originally planned. Epic also announced a +100% Match XP weekend to aid players in their quest for completion, beginning June 29th at 12AM PST and ending on July 1st at 11PM PST.

Fans should expect the beginning of Season 5 to be marked by a dramatic change to the map, just as Season 4 kicked off with the destruction of Dusty Depot. Since an ominous timer has been added to the missile silo near Snobby Shore, many expect the Season 5 cutscene to feature the villains of Season 4 destroying a section of the map to make way for a brand new named area.

It should be noted that when Season 4 ends, players will no longer be able to obtain any of the superhero Battle Pass skins. The reward for completing the Battle Pass is the extremely popular Omega skin, so anyone who hasn't yet unlocked Carbide's arch-nemesis should spend as much time as possible between now and July 12th completing challenges to progress through tiers.

Epic Games did a great job with the lead-up to Season 4, creating a mystery surrounding the meteor that attracted mainstream media attention and helped Fortnite's immense player count grow even higher. It will be interesting to see whether the lead-up to Season 5 will be handled just as well, and whether the inevitable map changes will keep the game feeling fresh for yet another season of Fortnite.

Fortnite Battle Royale is free to play now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and iOS.
