Fortnite has managed to differentiate itself from the vast majority of battle royale games with its challenges, building mechanics, and events. The crossover events in Fortnite have been key in its success as it has allowed the game to attract fans of other franchises and also enabled the title to add themed features. It has long been rumored that the heroes of Marvel would arrive in the game and the reveal trailer for the Season 4 Battle Pass showcases a variety of characters that will be in the title.

The game has previously teamed up with comic book characters such as Aquaman and Harley Quinn, but this new roster adds more than a specific character with a theme. Many had expected Fortnite to collaborate with Marvel after Captain America was featured in the title. Alongside this character, there was also an increasing amount of leaks. It now seems that the leaks were correct but the reveal trailer also showcases a narrative that ties together the appearance of some of the most beloved Avengers and X-Men.

The comic book heroes and villains find themselves in the world of Fortnite as they prepare to fight Galactus, who is a huge villain from the Marvel comics. Interestingly, typical good and bad guys are fighting alongside each other in this season and the roster includes Mystique, Iron Man, Wolverine, Groot, Thor, Doctor Doom, and She-Hulk. All of these characters have their signature abilities which include thunder, strength, and blasters, although it is unlikely that Wolverine will be invincible. It seems that Fortnite must have been working on this collaboration for some time as it combines cinematic universes to create a new story that will likely please Marvel fans. With that said, the reception to the new season has not been entirely positive.

Some comments complained that despite the new features in the game, Fortnite felt like a series of ads. While this crossover event does not seem to support a particular marketable material, this reaction is understandable given the title's history of collaborating with franchises for the release of films. With that said, this new crossover may bring new life into the game and there had been plenty of excitement for a Marvel and Fortnite event in the past.

Season 4 of Fortnite begins today which means players can get their hands on the battle pass and their favorite heroes immediately. It will be interesting to see if this new content will attract new players or even encourage old players to return to the battle royale title.

Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
