Among the ever-shifting zones and objects within the map of Fortnite's battle royale, a rock formation isn't likely to draw too much attention. After all, the map is being invaded by some sort of militant Santa and an entirely new biome was added with the latest Season. Nevertheless, small changes to Fortnite's map can often lead to major consequences. Today a mysterious rock formation might move, tomorrow a building in Twisted Towers could topple.

Reddit user PM_ME_GRAPHICS_CARDS posted their observation of the change over this past weekend. To the northeast of Tomato Temple is a small hill covered in rocks, and at the center stands a person-shaped figure made of rocks itself. The way in which this figure is standing changed recently, though it doesn't appear that the figure is moving towards anything just yet. The exact timing of the change isn't clear, though it seems to have been made mid-Season 7.

The Fortnite community, as ever, has many theories about the mysterious rock figure. Some say it could be Season 7 or Season 8's take on the Cube. Some think the rock will wander over to Twisted Towers specifically to destroy the building that has been repeatedly crushed season after season. Others think the rock figure is just a fun, easy to move joke from Epic and that the figure may even be dancing.

fortnite rock figure changes

The excitement over a rock figure hidden on Fortnite's map in the middle of nowhere in particular shows how players are already beginning to think about what's coming next. But considering Season 7 is still in its early weeks, it's unlikely that any big storyline updates have started just yet. Unless the rock figure starts running soon, it may just be a red herring. Then again, there's always the chance Epic could be using this as a means to keep players distracted.

Considering the dramatic changes that have been going on in Fortnite, the rock figure may just be part of the holiday fun. From the map icing over on Christmas day to the patch-by-patch introduction of Christmas lights and assorted other holiday decorations, perhaps the rock figure's new position is reflective of that. After all, it seems to be holding its hands to its face in glee, indicating that the 14 Days of Fortnite holiday event is fun for all, even rock monsters.

Fortnite is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
