As the countdown to Fortnite Battle Royale's Season 5 continues, the strange rifts that began appearing across the map in the aftermath of the missile launch are spawning all kinds of strange objects. A few days ago, one of the rifts dumped an anchor onto the island before it closed, and now another rift has spawned a horse carriage.

When the dimensional rifts first appeared around the map, their purpose seemed to be to take things away from the island. A rift over Tomato Town sucked in everyone's favourite tomato mascot, and Greasy Grove's Durr Burger ornament disappeared in a similar fashion. Strangely, the Durr Burger actually showed up in the real world, in what appears to be a genius PR stunt by Epic Games suggesting the rifts link the game world with our own.

Now though, the rifts seem to have entered a new phase in the final days of Fortnite's Season 4. The items that have been spawned - an anchor and a carriage - may be some indication as to Season 5's theme, though it's pretty difficult to find any link between the two. It's likely that the next couple of days will see more things spawn in, which will hopefully provide further clues about the future of the game.

Since Fortnite is now known for big map changes from season to season, it's a pretty safe bet that whatever's coming is more than just a few more items spawned on to the map. Since the tomato mascot entered the rift, some think Tomato Town may be destroyed, or perhaps the same could even happen to Greasy Grove.  There are all kinds of theories about what Season 5's theme will be, but the unpredictable nature of the live events so far mean that pretty much any of them could be true.

It's this uncertainty that has so far set Season 4's ending apart from ones in the past. The meteors that landed at the beginning of Season 4 were foreshadowed throughout Season 3, but the event itself was delivered by a cutscene instead of the engaging live events we've seen over the last couple of weeks. It's clear that Epic are always looking to push things forward with how they maintain Fortnite, so it's likely that whatever the carriage spawn is hinting at, it's going to be huge.

Fortnite Battle Royale is free to play on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Mobile.
