While the battle royale genre is currently dominated by the likes of Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, another contender threw its hat in the ring just this past week. Boss Key Productions, a studio headed by Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski of Unreal Tournament and Gears of War fame, has launched its own battle royale game called Radical Heights. However, the launch has not gone without some drama, with Fortnite developer Epic Games being accused of trying to steal talent from the Radical Heights team.

The accusation comes from CliffyB himself, who took to Twitter to publicly call out Epic Games for "trying to hire away" his staff at Boss Key Productions. CliffyB didn't specifically name any employees who Epic supposedly tried to poach from his company, and he also didn't clarify if the studio successfully managed to "hire away" anyone employed by Boss Key.

While not explicitly stated by CliffyB, he did say in a later tweet (as part of the same thread) that "There's room at this genre for more than a few games SMH," indicating that the drama may have to do with Boss Key's recently launched battle royale game Radical Heights.

Radical Heights has only been in early access since April 10, but the game has already been the center of multiple controversies. People have accused it of being derivative of Fortnite, and others have complained about how its "X-treme Early Access" state lacks many features standard for the genre, such as the ability to play as women.

The game's early access state means that it also has a wide range of technical issues and problems. One major issue that players have discovered is a bush glitch that essentially allows them to become invisible to other players, though it's far from the only glitch in the game.

Radical Heights has also been criticized for being pay-to-win, though Boss Key is already attempting to address that particular issue. Boss Key will also likely release updates to fix the game's glitches and add more features to help it stand out more when compared to other battle royale titles on the market, but Epic Games stealing away its talent could jeopardize that. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see what becomes of Radical Heights and if Epic responds to CliffyB's accusation.

Radical Heights is available now in early access on PC.
