Cross play between various platforms has been a hot topic with this generation of consoles and PCs. Phil Spencer, the VP of Gaming over at Microsoft, has been a major proponent of this feature, even trying to get Sony on board to no avail. While Rocket League has been at the forefront of the cross play movement, Epic Games has also positioned its wildly popular shooter Fortnite to also become another leading title for this functionality. It seems that PC and PS4 players can still face off against one another within Battle Royale.

Recently, players have been reporting that PC and PS4 players are still capable of meeting up online in a Battle Royale match. However, before PS4 and PC crossplay can happen when playing Fortnite Battle Royale, there are a few steps that need to happen. PlayStation 4 players need to ensure that they've linked their PlayStation Network account to their Epic Games account by going to Epic Games official website. Once logged in, selected the Connected Accounts section, then select the connect option under PlayStation Network.

At this point, players will be redirected to the PlayStation website to log in there as well to finish linking the accounts. Once done, they then need to download the Epic Games launcher then log in with their Epic Games account. Select the add friend button then add the PC user to the list. Once they accept the friend invitation, they will appear within the PS4 friends list inside of Fortnite Battle Royale. At this point, they can be added to the party complete with voice chat as well. At this time, cross play appears to be only available for PlayStation 4 and PC users, though Epic is working on a solution.

This isn't the first time Fortnite has attempted to link all major platforms together. About six months ago, PlayStation and Xbox players were able to matchmake with one another, a move which surprised a lot of fans and executives as well. While Microsoft applauded the move, Sony viewed the situation differently. Though no reasons were ever given, Epic quickly disabled the cross play feature, though fans remain hopeful that it's something that eventually could be turned back on. Sony's stance hasn't changed on the topic in the months since, so it appears that fans will need to continue to wait and hope for some point in the future.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
