While Fortnite remains an incredibly popular game, thanks in large part to its free to play battle royale component, it has evolved considerably since it first launched back in 2017. The focus has largely shifted on the many crossover events, concerts, and gameplay improvements that have been made over the years, most recently with the high profile additions of characters like Master Chief, Kratos, and Din Djarin with Baby Yoda. However, one mechanic that lies at the heart of the experience is being able to build structures on the fly.

One feature that has been promised for quite a while is the idea of disabling the pre-editing mechanics that are used to build certain structures. Inside of a battle royale match, all players have the ability to edit and set different builds, though many opt not do to that as many players have indicated that it can lead to mistakes, confusion, and an early elimination from a match from fidgeting around with a structure. As such, there's been a campaign from fans to have Epic disable it outright or, at the very least, provide a setting to toggle it off.

With 2020 quickly coming to a close, Epic Games addresses this request in a new Tweet. The company first acknowledging that it made a mistake with its attempt to disable pre-edits in update 15.10, not fully offering what the Fortnite community actually wanted. The Tweet goes on to confirm that many players just want a way to prevent editing until a build is fully in place. As such, the setting will be getting new adjustments early next year.

Unfortunately, no additional details about the update were provided and it's still a bit unclear as to when these edits will officially arrive. Early next year could mean a lot of things from January or the more general first few months of the year. It also largely depends on the studio itself as employees are still working from home due to the global COVID pandemic, which has caused many delays for various studios, pushing content and updates later than originally intended.

For now, players can continue to take part in the evolving narrative for the current season, which brings all sorts of different iconic characters into the game. Just recently, Epic added a Green Arrow skin based off of the Stephen Amell version previously seen on The CW's tv show, Arrow. In addition, a new bundle called the Royalty and Warriors pack released earlier this week which brought Captain Marvel, Taskmaster, and the long rumored Black Panther into the popular battle royale.

Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
