Back in season 7, it seemed as if Fortnite developer Epic Games had been teasing dragons as a forthcoming addition to the battle royale title because what appeared to be Dragon eggs were discovered in Polar Peak. Yet, time went on and no dragons were to be found. Then, in season 8, players had noticed more dragon eggs in the volcano that had just appeared on the battle island. Now, it seems season 9 has its own dragon teaser, but it may be a bit more than eggs.

Polar Peak is falling apart, which should surprise no one since it has been constantly melting, shifting, and changing since its initial introduction. Yet now giant cracks have begun to spread across it, with Fortnite players noticing that strange noises can be heard through these cracks, like deep breathing.

What's more, if Polar Peak truly has dragons trapped within, it wouldn't be the first time the Fortnite location has been used as a prison. The Prisoner, aka the Fire King, escaped Polar Peak at the end of season 7, so using it for dragons wouldn't be entirely unprecedented. Those excited about some special dragon-related content coming to the battle royale title will do well to keep their expectations in check, though, as, again, this is something that has been teased across 3 seasons now.

This does seem more substantial than the eggs, so the question on everyone's mind is how this will appear in the game if it does so soon. Now, this is only speculation, but it's worth mentioning that Epic Games has had some high profile crossovers in the past few weeks, namely the Fortnite x Michael Jordan crossover and the Avengers Endgame LTM before that. This means that a crossover with  George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire isn't outside the realm of possibility, and given that Game of Throne season 8 has recently ended, it would make sense that this event takes place sooner rather than later.

Of course, it could prove to be something smaller like a PvE mode or special challenges. Dragons could also be involved in the midseason event or season 10 when it launches in the coming months. Simply put, this could mean any number of things, so until something official comes from Fortnite developer Epic Games, we'd take this interesting tease as just another teaser.

Fortnite is out now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
