Over the last few years, emotes and taunts have become a rather firm aspect of the multiplayer experience, with players brazenly using the option to flaunt their victories in the face of their opponents. Epic Games is now giving Fortnite players the opportunity to have their own emote featured in the highly-popular battle royale title.

In a video posted to the Fortnite YouTube channel on Friday, it was announced that Epic Games would be holding a dance contest called #boogiedown with the grand prize being the winner’s victory dance being turned into an in-game emote, along with several other in-game rewards including 10 000 V-Bucks and a Boogie Bomb model.

To enter the contest, all Fortnite fans need to do is record a video of themselves performing a unique dance and then share it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the #boogiedown. The winner of the contest will be announced on 10 April. Aside from all submissions needing to be unique, the only other contest requirement in relation to the dance is that it fit the quirky nature of the game.

While only one lucky individual will see their dance turned into an emote, there is still a load of other prizes to be won as the contest will see a total of 100 winners selected. The prize a winner receives will be dependent on which category they fall into, with a full breakdown of potential prizes being available on Epic Games’ website.

With YouTube recently revealing that Fortnite is currently the most streamed game on the platform, it does seem that Epic Games does not need to do all that much to increase awareness of the game on social media. With that said, a social media-based dance contest does seem like a fun manner through which to get many players further involved in the game’s overall community.

With Fortnite currently being as popular as it is, it will be interesting to see what sort of dances community members are able to come up with.

Fortnite is available now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
