Fortnite is a free-to-play game, with players having the option to buy its PvE Save the World mode. While the vast majority of Fortnite players stick to the free-to-play battle royale portion of the game, retailers have still been selling physical copies of Fortnite in stores that often come with DLC or other bonuses, sometimes with nothing more than a code inside of the box. Some of these early Fortnite physical copies with the original box art have gotten rare, which has seen their prices skyrocket online.

Some eBay users are selling physical copies of Fortnite for insane prices. The most expensive Fortnite physical copy we found was being sold for a whopping $1,500. Most of the expensive Fortnite copies seem to be around $150, though some go a little lower than $100 and there are a few listed at $300.

Since Fortnite battle royale free-to-play, there may be some wondering why Fortnite physical copies are so expensive. As previously stated, some of the Fortnite physical editions are rare now, making them somewhat of a collector's item for those who prefer some kind of physical copy over owning something digital.

fortnite physical copies going for insane prices online

There are some people who just like to see their game collection grow on their shelf, and while some Fortnite physical copies don't even have a disc, there are apparently people out there willing to pay a premium price for the box. Of course, it's possible that no one is actually buying these super-expensive Fortnite physical copies, but considering the game's massive popularity and the rarity of the Fortnite physical copies, it seems as though there is an actual market for them.

When Fortnite exits early access and properly launches its Save the World mode, perhaps Epic will re-release Fortnite physical copies with the original box art. If so, it should lessen the value of the ones currently listed on eBay and elsewhere online, but in the meantime, those who want to get their hands on it should expect to shell out some cash.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
