The Epic Games v. Apple court case which started last week has been nothing if not full of surprises. For any fans not up to speed on the situation, Epic Games entered a legal battle with Apple last year over the profits from the mobile iOS version of the hit battle royale game Fortnite. Since the court proceedings began, the public has learned about leaked Fortnite plans, internal emails, and sales figures, from both companies.

What caught the eyes of most fans of the battle royal game last week was the news of leaked documents containing many of Epic Games' crossover plans for Fortnite, revealing either scrapped or potential crossovers with Nintendo's Metroid series, the Naruto franchise, as well as the long-rumored Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson collaboration. However, the court case has now seen an even more obscure occurrence, as Fortnite's Peely character made its way into the discussion today.

The news comes via senior reporter for The Verge Adi Robertson, who took the liberty of transcribing and summarizing much of today's court proceedings in the Epic Games vs. Apple case over on Twitter. Reportedly, Peely was brought up today by Epic Games' head of marketing Matthew Weissinger, who seemingly presented Fortnite's now somewhat iconic Agent Peely skin to the court.

It seems Weissinger made a joke about how they intentionally chose to present the Agent Peely version of Peely since it seemed more appropriate than showing the normal variant of Peely without any clothing on. Just for the sake of clarification, the Epic Games lawyer involved in the case made sure to clarify with Weissinger that there is in-fact nothing particularly inappropriate about the character without a suit on, though many may find it particularly odd. Peely initially made its way into Fortnite as a skin included in the game's Battle Pass during Season 8, while Agent Peely first appeared in the Battle Pass for Chapter 2 Season 2. The character has continued to see variations like the robotic P-1000 Peely.

Surprisingly, Fortnite's Peely was in the news not too long ago, after suffering a surprisingly horrific death in the game's Chapter 2 Season 6 cinematic event. At the moment, there are 6 different skin variations for Peely, as the character has quickly become a fan-favorite largely due to the sheer obscurity of running and gunning down characters as a giant banana.

Today marks the start of the second week of the Epic Games v. Apple court case, which is set to last 3 weeks total. The court proceedings have proven to be quite eventful, with Apple's lawyers notably referring to video game host and marketplace itch.io's selection of so-called unspeakable games.

Fortnite is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
