Although Epic Games' Fortnite battle royale game initially started off with some generic "characters" and skins for players to use, it has slowly been introducing players to an overarching storyline ever since Chapter 1 Season 3 brought players The Visitor character. Since then, Fortnite's Jonesy has become most known as Agent Jones, and other skins have cemented their place in the game's cast of characters like Meowscles and Fishstick.

Today brought the end of Chapter 2 Season 5 in the game and literally ushered in a new era for the newest season, bringing players Chapter 2 Season 6: Primal. At 1 AM PST, Fortnite premiered the Zero Crisis Finale event, featuring a cinematic showing the newest happenings in Agent Jones' mission to stabilize the Zero Point. However, many have noticed that it looks like a fan-favorite character was lost during the cinematic.

Epic Games called the Zero Crisis Finale its "most ambitious story cinematic yet," and it certainly shows, bringing together many of Season 5's crossover characters like The Xenomorph, Kratos, Sarah Connor, Master Chief, and more. However, fans noticed that during the cinematic, Agent Jones watched on in horror as his friend Peely, an anthropomorphic banana, took a Hadouken straight from Ryu himself, exploding into a chunky banana smoothie.

It seems the horrific death of Peely garnered mixed reactions from fans, as many took to Twitter to either express grief over their loss, or sheer joy, which came from those who believe that the giant sentient banana is a little too creepy for their liking. Although, this isn't the first time Fortnite's Peely character has met its demise.

During the game's Chapter 1 Season 9 cinematic trailer, it was shown that after being trapped together in a bunker for who knows how long, Jonesy eventually turned Peely into a refreshing smoothie. Additionally, in the trailer for the Mando's Bounty LTM last season, Peely was shown being frozen in Carbonite by the Mandalorian himself.

In any case, fans of Peely likely don't have too much to worry about, as this seems to be somewhat of a running joke by Epic Games at this point. The walking banana was introduced to Fortnite back in the Chapter 1 Season 8 Battle Pass as an Epic skin. Since then, the character has returned multiple times as the robotic P-1000, the unsettling Unpeely and Peely Bone, and even Agent Peely.

The newest season of Fortnite has sent players back in time, where they must hunt animals for materials, and craft their own Makeshift, Primal, and Mechanical versions of popular Fortnite weapons. While these new changes have certainly surprised fans, it will be interesting to see what else the game has in store in Season 6.

Fortnite is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
