Fortnite continues to provide new updates and content for players, attempting to improve play for everyone. The last big update in November expanded Creative Mode in Fortnite, and the next one will be bringing the long-awaited PC Performance Mode for PC players that don't have the newest hardware.

Fortnite's PC Performance Mode is described by Epic as a mode designed for those that don't have the best PC setups. Mid- and low-tier computers will benefit from this mode, as it is meant to smooth out performance and give players better framerates, no matter their hardware. Although players can already update these visual settings manually, this will update in-game settings for Fortnite players automatically so they can get the best settings for their hardware. It will also make Fortnite take up less space on player's hard drives.

Fortnite's PC Performance Mode will be rolled out on December 15th, 2020 in alpha. Players will be able to try out this new mode to see how the settings can provide “significant performance gains by trading out visual quality to lower memory usage and lighten the load on CPU and GPU.” Between all the in-game players, NPCs, vehicles, and the possible addition of planes to Fortnite, there's a lot for computers to process. While this will be the first in what will most likely be a long line of tweaks for this Performance Mode, players should give it a try to see what settings might be perfect for their own setups.

This Fortnite PC Performance mode will only be available for PCs. Since consoles can't be customized like a PC in terms of hardware, this sort of mode just isn't necessary for players on these platforms. Hopefully PC gamers will start to see smoother transitions in-game along with smaller game files. Considering this is launching in an alpha state, players may find a few bugs to work out while Epic tries to make the automatic settings work with a variety of hardware setups.

This month, players in Fortnite also have a new holiday event to look forward to coming this month. Although not a whole lot has been spoiled by Epic about the event, but a Fortnite leaker has hinted that the theme will be Dynamic Ice for Winterfest. The map will most likely be updated with snow and ice, and Fortnite may feature some new NPCs and holiday-themed skins for the Christmas season.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
