While many video games have been hosting spooky Halloween-themed events throughout the month of October, Epic Games decided to take things a step further by bringing Fortnite's Fortnitemares 2020 Halloween celebration into real life. The developer released a series of papercraft masks that let fans create their own costumes from home with next-to-no material investment necessary.

Three mask patterns are currently available to download as PDFs on Fortnite's website: An Arachne mask that only covers the top half of one's face; a Ghoul Trooper mask that turns its wearer into a Two-Face-styled colorful zombie; and a Skull Trooper mask that offers a more simple, customizable skull design. All three are available for paper and cardboard construction, and are "easy" builds that should only take interested parties around an hour-and-a-half to complete, according to Epic Games.

The developer encourages fans of the free-to-play battle royale who create these masks to show off using the social media hashtag "MyFortnitemares." However, they are only one part of the holiday festivities being pushed by Fortnite, as a recent update reintroduced Zombie-like Shadow forms that let players return from the dead with a host of special powers allowing them to track and kill living opponents.

Masks are not the only Halloween-themed arts and crafts projects provided by Epic Games this year. Templates are also available for three miniature foldable figures based on Big Mouth, Raven, and Ghoul Trooper, each of which are said to take less than an hour to complete. These will likely be good companions for any player looking to complete the full suite of Fortnitemares 2020 challenges before the end of the event.

Before the introduction of Fortnitemares content, the latest season in Fortnite has been centered entirely around characters and locations from the Marvel Comics universe. A new popular culture crossover has begun that's more appropriate for this time of year, though, as Fortnite players can purchase Ghostbusters-themed gear in the shop and discover the Ecto-1 hidden away.

Shadow characters, Ghostbusters, and papercraft projects are not all that Epic Games has prepared for Halloween 2020. The Fortnite Afterlife Party Concert is scheduled for Halloween night in Party Royale mode's Main Stage, headlined by reggaeton singer J Balvin. That should give players who are still stuck at home due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic something to keep them entertained at the end of the month.

Fortnite is available on Switch, PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
