Season 8 of Fortnite Battle Royale is almost here, with the free-to-play game's map teasing a potential earthquake to come and reorient the landscape in some way for the title's next major refresh. Now, in order to incentivize players to check out what's planned for Season 8, Epic Games has added four new Overtime Challenges to help one earn a free Battle Pass for the next season of content.

  • Visit (7) different waterfalls – 500XP
  • Deal (500) damage to opponents with Shotguns or SMGs – 500XP
  • Search (7) chests or ammo boxes at The Block – 500XP
  • Place Top 10 in Squads with a friend 3 times – Contrail

All one needs to do in order to receive Fortnite Battle Royale's Season 8 Battle Pass for free is complete 13 Overtime Challenges in total by February 27, 2019, and these four new tasks shouldn't be too difficult. Of course, each of the latest challenges poses its own level of difficulty. For example, having to visit seven different waterfalls will likely prove to be more easily attainable than placing Top 10 in Squads with a friend 3 different times.

For those who have only encountered and completed these latest Overtime Challenges, Fortnite Battle Royale has also put out another set of tasks that will aid one in getting a free Season 8 Battle Pass. One of these challenges, for instance, involves looting seven chests or ammo boxes at the Motel or RV Park.

There's no doubt that Fortnite Battle Royale is as relevant and popular as ever, especially with the game having recently broken a concurrent player record with its live Marshmello event. Nevertheless, it seems apparent that Epic is still looking to woo as many players away from its competitors by offering Season 8's Battle Pass for free to those who just play game and complete some relatively simple challenges.

Some are speculating that this particular in-game promotion for the free Season 8 Battle Pass is due to new titles like Apex Legends siphoning players away from Fortnite, but it's worth considering that Epic had already planned on providing this offer ahead of Respawn's take on free-to-play battle royale. At any rate, it will be interesting to see how many players take Epic up on its offer to complete Fortnite's Overtime Challenges for the free Battle Pass.

Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
