Fortnite has managed to maintain a player base through its constant stream of updates, and it seems that the title has at least one major update before it moves on to Season 3. There have been rumors about how Fortnite Season 2 would conclude, and this significant update seems to fix a lot of the lingering issues from this season as well as adding a whole new game mode which fans of capture the flag will likely enjoy.

While the battle royale genre becomes increasingly saturated, Fortnite has a history of diversifying its gameplay. The title has had peaceful social areas, concerts, and crossover events which have largely impressed fans of the free-to-play game. The latest update appears to appease some of the complaints from players that have grown in frequency as the gameplay has expanded in Season 2.

The most noticeable change players will notice after update 12.60 is the new mode Operation Infiltration in Spy Games. Players will be tasked with extracting intelligence from the other teams territory and players on the other side, will need to defend their information. With that in mind, the game mode appears to be Fortnite's take on the popular capture the flag game modes that have featured in many multiplayer games. This game mode may provide a welcome variety to the frequently battle royale focused gameplay in Fortnite and it will be interesting to see how popular this new element in the game is. Alongside other modes such as Party Royale, it seems that the team behind Fortnite is working on delivering gameplay for every kind of player.

This large update will also provide a range of fixes from the frequently lamented PC aim assist to the return of the Riot Control Baton pickaxe. These fixes will likely please fans, but the announcement of the update by Fortnite was met with some skepticism from fans. It seems that some players want the game to return to its previous iterations despite the new game modes, and it will be interesting to see how the game handles this criticism while attempting to provide more content for a diverse player base.

Fortnite is set to be released on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 and as a result, it looks like the game is set to stay. Of course every free-to-play title needs a strong player base and despite some complaints, Fortnite seems to be retaining a good amount of fans. The fans who continue to play the game will likely appreciate the bug fixes and may enjoy a new game mode.

Fortnite is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One and will be available for Xbox Series X and PS5 in the Fall.
