Fortnite has become a cultural touchstone for a generation, bringing people together through charm, frenetic gameplay, and savvy design. The game offers much more than gunplay at this point, with concerts and even full movie screenings on Fortnite's map.

One of the most important influencers in the Fortnite community is Tyler Blevins, known to the world as Ninja. One of the best players in the world, he has become his own brand. The identity of Fortnite would not be what it is today without Ninja, and he has considerable influence. Now he is using that brand and influence to create his own Fortnite tournament.

The tournament, dubbed "Ninja Battles: Featuring Fortnite" will be held over a six week period, with a total of 60 pro Fortnite players. Each week features a prize of $80,000 for the winner, for a total of $480,000 if someone manages to win all six weeks. With so much money at stake, the competition is likely to be very fierce. Hopefully there will not be a debacle like the recent cheating scandal during the Fortnite Championship Series.

The players are not the only pros in the Fortnite community appearing either. Two professional commentators are covering the matches, both of whom have commentated on big Fortnite events before. Whether or not Ninja himself will be participating is currently unclear, though if not he may be commentating. Some of Ninja's fanbase or foes could make the tournament more interesting, since many of them believe Ninja is too toxic on his Mixer streams.

Anyone who wants to up their Fortnite game should really give these tournaments a watch each week. While the start was today, there will be plenty of opportunities to tune in over the next six weeks. With so many professional players all competing to the best of their abilities, the footage will be a treasure trove of valuable information. Odds are players will see things they did not even know were possible in Fortnite on display and looking routine.

Something interesting to note is the title of this tournament: Ninja Battles Featuring Fortnite. The actual name seems to be Ninja Battles, with Fortnite being the guest game. This could mean that any future Ninja Battle tournaments (if any others are coming) may feature other games besides Fortnite. Since Ninja thinks Epic Games has lost its way, it would not be surprising if he wants to feature other games. The only question is whether or not he could command the same attention with a game other than Fortnite. Only time will tell.

Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Mobile devices.
