Since being released on iOS devices earlier this year, the mobile version of Fortnite Battle Royale has gone from strength to strength. Recent reports estimated that the mobile version of the game is making almost $2 million in revenue every single day. Fans are very happy with the mobile port of the hit multiplayer game, and the iOS title is seriously popular, but developer Epic Games is planning changes that may make the game even better.
In a post on the game's official website, Epic Games outlined its plans to "make the experience better" on mobile, with the Fortnite developer currently working on major features including the refining of the customizable heads-up display (HUD) that will allow players to select which icons they see on screen. The studio noted that the customizable HUD was added earlier this week, so it is encouraging players to test the feature out.
Another major feature coming to Fortnite mobile is voice chat. Although Epic doesn't provide an estimated release date for the feature, the developer does say that players will be able to use it to communicate with players across platforms. Moreover, the feature will include a button that allows players to mute themselves, mute everyone else in their party, and go back to an open microphone.
Other aspects that Epic Games is working on include "improving Autorun and adding better ways to fire," increasing graphic quality, and allowing stat-tracking in the mobile version of the game. Epic also plans to add a Battery Saver-mode to allow players to increase the game's performance if they lower the graphics quality. The battery saving feature sounds especially useful for those playing Fortnite at school (or at work) and perhaps aren't able to charge their devices easily.
As mentioned, Epic has not unveiled a specific timeline for all of these features, so it's unclear exactly when players will enjoy them. It's also unclear whether players of the forthcoming Android version of Fortnite Battle Royale, which now has a release window, will be able to make use of these once that iteration of the game has launched.
Lack of a timeline aside, though, mobile players will be glad to see that Epic is being so proactive about addressing their feedback and concerns. The developer does have a huge challenge on its hands in balancing and updating the PC, console, and mobile versions of the game, but it's positive to see that despite mobile being the most recent release, mobile players aren't being left out.
Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and is eyeing a summer 2018 release window for Android.
