Fortnite Battle Royale for iOS has tripled its daily revenue, earning $1.8 million per day on average. The massively popular battle royale game made its way to iOS mobile devices in March, initially accessible only to those with an invitation from Epic Games. After lifting that restriction this week, user spending jumped from $620,ooo to $1.8 million, according to a new report by market analysis firm Sensor Tower.

In a recent statement, Randy Nelson, the head of mobile insights at Sensor Tower, said Fortnite mobile enjoyed a healthy revenue stream even before it became open access. “The sharp increase in revenue is largely the result of new players entering the game’s mobile ecosystem, but we’d already seen a steady increase in mobile spending leading up to the invite system’s removal," he clarified.

Since its mobile launch, players have spent a combined $15 million on in-app purchases, further bolstered by a limited time Starter Pack released last week. Keep in mind, these numbers are only representative of iOS users. While Epic Games is likely months away from releasing Fortnite for Android devices, the researchers at Sensor Tower predict a continuous growth in daily spending that could potentially exceed $3 million per day. Nelson forecasts the Android launch will "at least double the player base."

Despite its iOS exclusivity, Fortnite is already one of the most popular mobile games of all time, claiming the number one spot in iOS downloads in more than 20 regions.  To put its success into context, Fortnite mobile pulled in $6.4 million in user purchases within the last week, compared to Candy Crush Saga at $5.8 million, Clash of Clans at $4.1 million, and Pokemon Go at $2.7 million.

Fortnite is also dueling for the top spot with its bitter rival in the battle royale playing field, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which is available on Android and iOS devices. Sensor Tower estimates that 14 million iOS users have downloaded the mobile PUBG, and its numbers closely compare to those of Fortnite's on other platforms as well.

Still, Nelson isn't about to count Fortnite out. “Also worth noting is the fact that we could be seeing the effect of the fact that [Fornite] is not only ‘cross play’ but also ‘cross buy,’ in that players can use items purchased via the mobile version on PC and console,” he explained.
