With Fortnite Season 5 going for some kind of "bounty hunter" aesthetic and Epic Games even teasing hunters from different realities, fans are hoping this means even more crossovers are afoot for the battle royale. The Mandalorian, star of the Disney+ show of the same name, has already been confirmed, and some are theorizing that perhaps gaming's most prolific bounty hunter, Samus of the Metroid series, will join.

At first, this seems very unlikely. Though Fortnite has crossed over with numerous franchises in the past, it has yet to do so with any from Nintendo. Nintendo is known for being incredibly protective of its IPs and it's very unlikely that it'd be okay with any of its characters making appearances on other non-Nintendo platforms.

However, while Samus being in Fortnite is nothing more than a theory at this point, there is some logic to it that makes it seem slightly more viable. Firstly, two other crossover characters have seemingly been confirmed for the game: Kratos from God of War and Master Chief from Halo.

Both characters were datamined but, at the time of writing, only Kratos appears to have been confirmed in an official capacity, whereas Master Chief's inclusion originated from 4chan, so it may be less viable. But, if both are true, it lends credence to the possibility that the PlayStation and Xbox versions of Fortnite will receive exclusive skins - Kratos for the former and Master Chief for the latter.

This would leave out the Nintendo Switch version and, if any Nintendo character was going to be an exclusive skin, it would most likely be Samus. What's more, there have been rumors and theories of Fortnite being added to Nintendo's own crossover title Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with one of its characters being among the second Fighters Pass. Considering Ultimate features characters from various third-party companies, representing some of the most popular video games of all time (Sonic the Hedgehog, Final Fantasy 7, Minecraft etc.), a Fortnite inclusion almost feels inevitable.

It's believed that some kind of big Fortnite announcement is planned for this year's Game Awards. If Nintendo and Epic are indeed collaborating, that would be the perfect place to reveal it. As always, though, these are only theories at this point and nothing is set in stone.

A Samus cameo in Fortnite could help promote the character, especially since she has a new game, Metroid Prime 4, in development. There has been very little information about it since its announcement, though developer Retro Studios has been on something of a hiring spree throughout the year.

Fortnite is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
