Just yesterday, Epic Games officially implemented the first-ever crossover event for its wildly popular sandbox survival title, Fortnite, by teaming up with Marvel to release the limited time Infinity Gauntlet mode. Now, the appearance of an indestructible hatch on the game's map has many fans wondering what its purpose is, and whether or not the developer has plans to eventually incorporate some kind of crossover with the American TV drama Lost.

As seen in the images below courtesy of the Redditor and Fortnite fan known as Ponz000, fans of the free-to-play Battle Royale title can head to the northern part of Wailing Woods and find a small hatch nestled in between a few giant trees. Using the game's replay system, Ponz000 brought the camera underneath the map to show that the hatch just has a concrete hole inside of it for the moment. Other eagle-eyed fans noted that it features some markings on the backside of the entrance, which could denote that it will lead to an underground bunker of some kind.

For those unaware, Lost featured a story line in which the characters John Locke and Boone Carlyle discovered a mysterious, impregnable hatch in the middle of the jungle, with the series using it as a plot device that was stretched out over the course of an entire season until it was opened. With this being the case, the parallels with Fortnite are obvious, but there's still no telling whether or not Epic is intending to use the hatch in the game as a nod to a show that's now almost 8 years old.

All things considered, a Lost-inspired crossover in Fortnite wouldn't be too outlandish, particularly when one considers how influential the TV show was for a lot of creators, and how many video games have tucked away references to it in their worlds. For instance, one of the best video game Easter eggs out there involves Just Cause 2 including a location called Hantu Island which has electromagnetic pulses that destroys ships and planes in the area, and it even features a hatch as well. That said, though, even if Fortnite's hatch doesn't wind up relating to Lost, one hopes Epic has something significant planned for it.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
