Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 brought along with it a heavy bounty hunter theme, introducing skins based on The MandalorianPredatorHalo and more IPs with famous hunters. Given the theme as well as the inclusion of an Xbox representative in Master Chief and a PlayStation representative in God of War's Kratos, players thought that it would be the perfect time to add Metroid's space bounty hunter Samus Aran to Fortnite.

Needless to say, Samus ultimately made no appearance in Season 5, though fans still held out hope. During the Epic Games v. Apple court proceedings, leaked documents revealed that the developer wanted to bring Samus to the game, and last month, many fans spotted a silhouette that looked strikingly similar to Samus herself in the Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point comic. However, one Fortnite leaker now some has bad news for Metroid fans.

Fortnite Season 7: Invasion launched yesterday, bearing a heavy alien theme, which fans also thought would be another perfect chance for Samus to show up. However, over on Twitter, Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR has expressed their doubts. Just ahead of the launch of Season 7, the leaker said that a collaboration between Metroid and Fortnite will not be happening this season.

It seems that while Samus has been planned to appear in Fortnite, Epic Games was ultimately unable to secure the rights to put her in the game, according to ShiinaBR's inside sources. Going into more detail, ShiinaBR mentions that this information comes from someone who had leaked the Rick and Morty crossover with Fortnite before it was officially revealed, as well as a number of Season 6 collaborations. In any case, while disappointing to many, this news likely comes as no surprise, as Nintendo is somewhat notorious for being incredibly protective of its IPs, especially if it means their appearance on other non-Nintendo platforms.

Aside from Samus, leaked court documents have revealed that Epic Games either scrapped or is planning to add other crossovers with NarutoThe Hunger GamesKill Bill, and more to Fortnite. Aside from the appearance of Rick and Morty this season, Superman will also be added to the Season 7 battle pass in August, along with skin Styles, a Glider, a Pickaxe, a Back Bling, and more.

Fortnite Season 7: Invasion has been somewhat of a complete 180 from last season's Primal theme, adding alien invasions, high-tech IO weapons, and an all-new reworked Battle Pass to the game, among other new features.

Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
