Epic Games' Fortnite has proven to withstand the test of time, thanks in some part to the constant slew of new content. This content manages to keep the title fresh as Epic Games has shown a willingness to fundamentally alter different parts of the game. Now, the developer looks ready to bring back a fan-favorite vehicle.

Where many titles maintain a standard of gameplay, Epic Games has not been so restricted. With multiple events, from bringing Thanos into the battle royale to B.R.U.T.E mechs, Epic Games has continued to enrapture fans since Fortnite released the game mode on September 26, 2017. Now, a dataminer has seemingly stumbled on an incoming returning item.

It appears that hoverboards could be making a return in the current season of Fortnite. Popular Fortnite dataminer Mang0e has reported that the hoverboards "will likely return," although they do not mention where the data was found. Along with the hoverboard announcement, Mang0e states that Supply Drops have had their spawn rate decreased, so players can expect one spawn per storm.

It is important to note that hoverboards are different than driftboards in Fortnite, although they are sometimes used interchangeably. Driftboards are more difficult to control, and allow for a variety of tricks along with massive jumps. Hoverboards were far more agile in turning and can climb ramps faster than driftboards. Driftboards are the culprit behind players ricocheting outside of the play space, while hoverboards were responsible for the movement of B.R.U.T.E.s that could stand on top of a player. This made the mechs far faster than intended, before they were patched by Epic Games in Version 10.20.

Hoverboards were added to "Save the World" to quickly travel across maps without costing stamina. Some note that it is possible the hoverboard could be arriving with a means of fuel needed to balance their use, although characters already fall from the hoverboard upon taking damage. Depending on how the transportation is implemented, there is the possibility of wild trick shots making their way to the battle royale.

It is worth noting that this is not guaranteed by Epic Games as of this writing. While datamining allows players to find upcoming content prior to the announcement, data could be misconstrued without developer guidance. The difference between definitions, when adding or removing context, can fundamentally shift implementation beyond what even practiced dataminers would expect. For now, however, the hoverboard returning to Fortnite seems plausible.

Fortnite is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
