Fortnite has proven to be hugely popular; and not just with the average gamer. Epic Games' multiplayer marvel has also proven to be a huge success among musicians and professional athletes, with some rugby players even performing Fortnite-inspired celebrations. The game is such a hit among professional athletes, in fact, that a few pros recently came up with an inventive way to play.

A video from the official Major League Baseball (MLB) Twitter earlier this week showed a group of players for the Milwaukee Brewers using the stadium's jumbotron to play Fortnite. Sitting in the seats on the other side of the field, one player holds a DualShock 4 controller while the action is displayed on-screen. The round doesn't seem to be very successful though, as the video closes out with the player's character being taken out.

For the most part, the video has gone down well with baseball fans and even non-baseball fans in the Fortnite community. The responses to the tweet jokingly note that the input lag between the controller and the jumbotron screen must be horrible, with one reply saying that they would lose interest in the time it took the game to recognize their inputs.

Another Fortnite fan suggested selling tickets to watch the Brewers play on the jumbotron in person. Given that the game has made hundreds of millions of dollars for Epic Games, it could potentially translate to a huge money-making opportunity for its players as well, especially on this sort of scale.

However, some baseball fans may have concerns that the athletes' interest in the game could impact their performance on the field. What happens if athletes start cutting time at training in order to go and play? Or what happens if they start focusing on their winning Fortnite strategies more than they do on the strategies that help them to win at the sport they play professionally? These seem like valid questions considering that another MLB player recently made the decision to stop playing the game in order to focus on his career after he suffered an injury.

Regardless of fans' position on the matter, professional athletes are likely to keep celebrating their love of Fortnite in extravagant ways. In addition to the jumbotron monitor and scoring dances, there have also been pairs of custom Fortnite sneakers and custom goalkeeping gloves, so expect more of that as the game remains successful.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
