Epic Games' battle royale Fortnite has been immersed in a large-scale crossover with the Marvel Comics universe for months. This ongoing "Nexus War" season has seen the addition of heroes, villains, and locales from all across Marvel canon, including the just-revealed Fortnite Venom skin. However, the game also has a history with DC Comics characters, and as of today fans can access a special bundle based on Joker and other members of Batman's rogues' gallery.
Fortnite's The Last Laugh bundle was announced in August, and can now be purchased at retail stores for $29.99 on PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X - with digital versions planned to release later this year, according to a press release. The official Warner Bros. and Epic Games crossover focuses primarily on Joker and Poison Ivy, but also includes a new look for Fortnite original character King Midas called "Midas Rex."
Fortnite: The Last Laugh Bundle comes packaged with 1,000 V-Bucks and 11 in-game items, including the three aforementioned character skins. Interested Fortnite players can also receive three Back Blings, four Pickaxes (two of which are for Joker), and a special Contrail that follows them as they dive down from the Battle Bus.
Unlike previous DC Comics crossovers, such as the Harley Quinn Fortnite skin released to coincide with Birds of Prey, this collection of cosmetics does not appear to tie in with any particular Warner Bros. venture, and the designs of Joker and Poison Ivy are relatively unique. In 2019, Fortnite also released a Batman crossover event featuring the Caped Crusader and Catwoman, also with designs unique to the game.
While it seems odd to incorporate a Fortnite original character like Midas into a bundle otherwise dedicated to DC Comics villains, it makes sense given Epic Games has been pushing Midas as a sort of recurring antagonist. Originally the leader of one of the spy organizations in Chapter 2, Season 2, Midas also returned in Fortnitemares 2020 with the power to raise the dead and more otherworldly abilities.
The Last Laugh bundle is not the only set of cosmetics being released for Fortnite as the holiday season kicks off. In addition to the continual stream of Marvel content that the developers suggest may continue for years to come, it appears the Fortnite Frozen Legends pack is coming back to the item store soon, bringing with it a number of cosmetics for $24.99.
